Taiwan announced Friday an US$8 million donation to Ukraine from private citizens to help ease the impact of Russia’s invasion on Ukrainians.
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu told Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko via video conference Friday that US$3 million of the donated funds will be given to the Ukrainian capital, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The remaining $5 million will be distributed to six Ukrainian medical institutions, according to the ministry.
According to the ministry, Klitschko expressed gratitude for Wu’s donation and described the ongoing war as a fight to protect democratic values and freedom.
From March 2 to April 1, a government campaign raised a total of US$33 million in humanitarian aid as well as a large volume of supplies for Ukraine, and Friday’s donation came from those funds.
