Optical connectivity – and silicon photonics in particular – is expected to become a critical technology to enable connectivity for next-generation data centres.
With the ever-increasing bandwidth requirements required to keep up with system performance, copper signaling alone is not enough. To this end, several companies, including fab providers such as TSMC, are developing silicon photonics solutions.
TSMC unveiled its 3D Optical Engine roadmap at its 2024 North American Technology Symposium this week.
