The Government of Paraguay, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has expressed its concern over the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) military actions in the Taiwan Strait and around Taiwan, advocating for peace and stability in the region.

China reportedly conducted two days of military exercises around Taiwan, referring to them as a “heavy punishment” in response to statements made during President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) inaugural address on May 20.

“Paraguay observes with concern and condemns the military exercises carried out by the People’s Republic of China in the vicinity of the Republic of China (Taiwan). These constitute a serious threat to the balance in the region. Paraguay advocates for peace and stability in the world,” stated the ministry.

President Santiago Peña and his delegation have returned from Taiwan after attending President Lai’s inauguration and participating in meetings with technology investors.
