The chairman of Starlux Airlines, Chang Kuo-wei, took a personal initiative to address passengers who were stranded overnight at Tokyo Narita Airport due to a flight delay and subsequent cancellation. The incident occurred on May 6, when a scheduled departure at 3:45 p.m. was delayed due to strong winds. Passengers were rerouted to another flight around 5:30 p.m., but faced further delays as a new flight crew had to be arranged, resulting in a departure time well after 11 p.m.

Despite efforts to accommodate passengers, the flight was eventually canceled close to midnight, leaving travelers to spend the night in the airport terminal. Chang Kuo-wei, who founded the airline in 2020, flew to Narita the following morning to offer his apologies directly to the affected passengers.

In a video captured by one of the passengers, Chang Kuo-wei explained the sequence of events, attributing the delays to adverse weather conditions, aircraft maintenance checks, and exceeded crew working hours. He also mentioned challenges with immigration procedures due to a night curfew at the airport.

Starlux Airlines, known for its luxury services and ambitious expansion plans, operates routes primarily in Asia, including a Taipei to Los Angeles route inaugurated in April 2023.
