Taipei, July 2 (CNA) The Central News Agency (CNA), Taiwan’s national news agency, signed a cooperation agreement with the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Tuesday to share news stories and other media resources.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony at CNA’s Taipei headquarters, between CNA Editor-in-Chief Chris Wang (王思捷) and, Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of PTI, India’s oldest and largest news agency, which is also a nonprofit cooperative involving more than 500 Indian newspapers.

Under the agreement, the two sides agreed to exchange texts, photos and videos free of cost, and to establish a cooperative relationship to further strengthen their news gathering capabilities and promote international news exchange.

Cooperation between Taiwanese and Indian news outlets are rare, and it is hoped that the collaboration between CNA and PTI will help people on both sides better understand each other, Wang said.

Joshi said there is a great amount of interest in Taiwan among Indian readers, who admire the country for its achievements despite geopolitical challenges.

“Because of this agreement, we will be able to provide a lot of news about Taiwan to our Indian subscribers,” said Joshi, who is in Taiwan to attend the centennial celebration of CNA.

The agreement will also allow the two news agencies to host journalists from the other side – which is important “because it’s only when you are actually on the ground that you understand the country,” he said.
