NVIDIA and Foxconn are collaborating to build Taiwan’s largest supercomputer, marking a major milestone in the island’s AI development.
The project, named the Hon Hai Kaohsiung Super Computing Center, was announced during Hon Hai Tech Day. It will be built using NVIDIA’s advanced Blackwell architecture and the GB200 NVL72 platform, featuring 64 racks and 4,608 Tensor Core GPUs.
With a projected AI performance exceeding 90 exaflops, this supercomputer is set to become the fastest in Taiwan. Once operational, Foxconn plans to use it to drive advancements in cancer research, large language model development, and smart city innovations, positioning Taiwan as a global leader in AI-powered industries.
Foxconn’s “three-platform strategy” focuses on smart manufacturing, smart cities, and electric vehicles. The supercomputer will play a key role in supporting these efforts, particularly in areas such as digital twins, robotic automation, and smart urban infrastructure, bringing AI-enhanced services to cities like Kaohsiung.
Construction has already begun in Kaohsiung, with the first phase expected to be operational by mid-2025 and full deployment by 2026.
The supercomputer will integrate NVIDIA technologies, including Omniverse and Isaac robotics platforms, to enhance AI and digital twin applications and revolutionize manufacturing processes.
James Wu, Foxconn Vice President and Spokesperson, stated, “Powered by NVIDIA’s Blackwell platform, Foxconn’s new AI supercomputer is one of the most powerful in the world, representing a significant leap in AI computing and efficiency.”
The GB200 NVL72 platform is a cutting-edge data center optimized for AI and accelerated computing, with each rack equipped with 36 NVIDIA Grace CPUs and 72 Blackwell GPUs connected by NVIDIA’s NVLink technology, delivering 130TB/s of bandwidth. NVIDIA NVLink Switch allows the system’s 72 GPUs to operate as a single, unified GPU, making it ideal for training large AI models and performing real-time inference on trillion-parameter models.
Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., is the world’s largest electronics manufacturer and a key player in the global technology infrastructure. It is a leader in smart manufacturing, pioneering industrial AI by digitizing its factories using NVIDIA Omniverse.
Foxconn was also among the first companies to implement NVIDIA NIM microservices for developing domain-specific large language models (LLMs) in its AI factories for smart manufacturing, electric vehicles, and cities.
The Hon Hai Kaohsiung Super Computing Center will join a global network of advanced supercomputers powered by NVIDIA, which are driving research and innovation across multiple scientific fields worldwide.
