Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., known as Foxconn Technology Group, is a Taiwanese multinational contract manufacturer of electronic products; it is the world’s largest contract manufacturer of electronic products and is one of the largest employers worldwide.

Foxconn announced that it aims to begin production of its electric Model C SUV for the North American market by the end of next year.

The Taiwan-based company, known as Hon Hai Technology Group, presented the updated model during Hon Hai Tech Day in Taipei last week.

“The Model C, designed together with our American partners specifically for the U.S. market, will be launching at the end of 2025,” said Andy Lee, CEO of Foxtron, a subsidiary of Foxconn. “Stay tuned.”

Lee stated that the North American version of the vehicle will feature several modifications compared to the Taiwanese model. He did not disclose which partners Foxtron is collaborating with in the U.S.

Among the updates are an expanded S-duct design to improve aerodynamics, new styling, a redesigned steering wheel, and an updated user interface (UI), according to Lee.

He also noted that the U.S. version of Foxtron’s Model C will support the North American Charging Standard, allowing it to utilize charging infrastructure throughout the country.

The Model C, a family SUV that first premiered in 2021, was officially launched in Taiwan during the first quarter of this year.

“The market response was very good,” Lee said. “It quickly has become one of the best-selling electric cars in Taiwan.”

In August, the vehicle was enhanced for success as the first electric vehicle to compete in the 2,100-kilometer Asia Cross Country Rally, Southeast Asia’s largest motorsport event.

Foxconn is widely recognized as the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer, particularly known for its work with the iPhone.

This business model has been applied to vehicle production, allowing automotive OEM customers to select their preferred reference designs for customization through Foxconn’s Contract Design and Manufacturing Service. With Foxconn’s modular platform, hardware modules can be flexibly combined, and the software-defined architecture is continuously updated.

“Partners from around the world are coming to seek opportunities for collaboration,” Lee added.

It remains uncertain whether the North American version of the Model C will be produced in the U.S. or at an overseas facility.

Foxconn owns a manufacturing plant in Lordstown, Ohio, which it acquired from Lordstown Motors Corp. in 2022. Currently, that factory produces the MK-V, an electric tractor with autonomous options designed by Monarch Tractor.

Last week, Jun Seki, Foxconn’s strategy chief for electric vehicles, informed Bloomberg TV that it will likely take several years to ramp up EV production at the Lordstown site.
