27 April 2022 Taiwanese firms continue to rule the semiconductor industry. The company that gets the most attention is TSMC, but there are others that are less well-known, such as UMC, Vanguard, and PSMC. Combined these companies account for 64% of the global foundry market. Many of the world’s largest companies, including Apple, Nvidia, AMD, and Qualcomm, seek to gain competitive advantages by using advanced nodes, making advanced nodes extremely profitable for companies like TSMC. Taiwanese firms continue to expand domestically, with six new plants under construction, in addition to four in China and three in the United States.
